About: Old Royal Naval College

The Old Royal Naval College is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an architectural gem in Greenwich, London. Sir Christopher Wren's riverside masterpiece hosts some of the finest buildings and structures in the UK, including the Chapel of St Peter and St Paul, the Water Gates, the Victorian Skittle Alley, and the Painted Hall.

Sir James Thornhill’s magnificent Painted Hall, is Britain's answer to the Sistine Chapel. The epic Baroque artistic masterpiece – with 40,000 square feet of awe-inspiring painted walls and ceiling – is an essential part of any visit to the Old Royal Naval College.

Though most famous for the imprisonments and beheadings held there it has, at various times, served as the royal residence, mint, menagerie, armory, observatory and as the holding place for the Crown Jewels - a function it still serves. Legend has it that six ravens must guard the tower at all times, or else the kingdom (as in United Kingdom) will fall. The ravens are still there, and so is this nearly thousand year old complex of stocky stone structures.
