The Old Library at Trinity College Dublin, dating back to the 1500s, is Ireland's oldest library and one of the most beautiful libraries in the world.

It's also home to The Book of Kells, the most astonishing illuminated manuscript of medieval Europe still in existence. Dating from around the year 800, this vellum (calfskin) manuscript gets its name from the Abbey of Kells in Kells, County Meath, where it resided in medieval times.
