Overview

Highlights

  • See close to 1.5 million works in the city's second-largest museum, including pieces from European masters
  • Discover rarities of ancient cultures, from the first Americans to the Egyptians, all in Brooklyn's Prospect Park
  • Turn an artistic eye on the history of the United States with art chronicling its birth to the present day

Description

While the museum’s collection of artwork is impressive, there’s a lot more on offer. The Brooklyn Museum gathers artifacts from major ancient cultures, including Asian ceramics, pendants from the first Americans and furniture hailing from the height of European decadence.

While the Brooklyn Museum is able to boast an impressive collection of European art, where it truly shines is in its diversity. You'll be able to discover Native American art and paintings from colonial Spain, and a unique curation of feminist art in the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center.

Floor by floor, the Brooklyn Museum unravels the world's artistic history, from Ancient Egypt through to early Chinese dynasties. Visitors will be able to see relics of the past, and admire statues from 3,000 years ago as well as ornamental furniture that was all the rage in the 18th century.

The museum's collection of art from the USA's days of rebellion through to the modern day adds even more depth to your visit, with colonial paintings and modern art as well as sculpture from the early 20th century on display.

Excellent
The African American security guard on the 4th floor, who has been there for 15 years, was super informative and very generous with his time.
