Mount Vesuvius National Park Entrance & Guided Visit

The monolithic Mount Vesuvius is still considered one of the world's most dangerous volcanoes. But don't worry, she hasn't so much as coughed since 1944. Your ticket will let you visit Vesuvius and walk the lunar-like landscape, admiring incredible views of the Gulf of Naples. Due to current maintenance work you can't walk around the crater, but you can still get pretty close. See and smell the earth's magma and all those minerals that shape the rocks and produce unique colors, as your guide provides a captivating crash course in volcanology.

Pompeii: Reserved Entrance

When Vesuvius erupted with the force of 100,000 atom bombs, life in Pompeii perished forever. Ironically, the blanket of superheated ash preserved much of the city for millennia. So what you see today lends an unparalleled window into life in Roman times. With over 50 hectares to explore, you can walk around the Forum with Vesuvius in the background, marvel at the spectacular amphitheater; remnants of the aqueduct, street fountains, public baths, private villas, statues, and frescoes, as well as hundreds of haunting plaster casts of lava-fried locals! Spectacular is an understatement.

This pass is good value for money and gave us a fantastic day. The tickets got us in and it’s nice to have everything booked in one go.
The app for Pompeii audio guide was hard to use and know where you are in the park. We found it good to also get the “my Pompeii app”, the official Pompeii app to work out where you are and how to get to things. If I went back I would definitely invest in having a guided tour. We were looking at a lot of streets and buildings and didn’t really know what we were looking at and what was important to focus on with limited time due to the intense heat.
Mount Vesuvius was an amazing experience. With your pass you can only start to go up Vesuvius from the ticket point 30 minutes before.
Around the ticket area is a shop and you have to buy something to use the only awful toilet up there so come prepared.
For the tour it starts right at the top. You have to do at least a 20 minute walk alone first which is extremely steep and difficult - trainers are needed!! It is a clear path and everyone is doing it as well. When you get up there there’s a small hut and some guides sat around advertising a tour. Even though we were there at the time our tour should have started it was a bit of ‘Italian disorganisation’. They were just waiting to fill up a group of people for an English tour. I imagine they don’t really go off the timings it’s just when they’ve got a group. The tour is short and you just walk along and take a look as he tells you about the different volcanos around and how they monitor this one. The book used for pictures was good but overall it wasn’t the tour or guide we were expecting. You could have easily walked up there yourself and had a look (what most people were doing). Also we did pay for the Vesuvio parking however most cars didn’t have it and no one was monitoring it. There are some guys running a shuttle from the car park to the top. It’s worth it and they will be there when you finish to bring you and others back. Cost €3 per person.

Pompei

Pompeii

Pompeii was lost to us for many centuries until it was rediscovered again, initially in 1599, and properly in the 1700s. It is one of the world's greatest archaeological sites. The volcanic eruption wiped out the population of Pompeii, but the town they lived in was remarkably well-preserved because of the combination of ash and lack of moisture that sealed the town, and essentially turned it into a time capsule.
