'Picasso in Image' presents a unique thematic tour among the museum's collections focusing on the appearances of Pablo Picasso in front of the camera. From art films and archives to documentaries shot during the artist's lifetime and more, these moving images show the different facets of his life and his work: father of a family, genius creator, Mediterranean hedonist, tireless worker, a cheerful personality and loyal friend.

It is the artist himself who is placed at the heart of the journey, punctuated by the common thread of audiovisual extracts. Next to these animated images are works from the collection echoing each of the projections. The second floor of the museum will aim to present the different facets of the artist's personality, from the first amateur films shot in the 1930s, to documentaries made in the early 1950s which show him at work in his studio in Vallauris, up to the television reports of the 1960s, where you'll discover an artist at the height of his glory.

This museum is located in a stunning 17th century hôtel particulier in the Marais district of Paris. It's dedicated, as the name suggests, to the great artist Pablo Picasso. Descendants of the Spanish-born artist sowed the seeds for this gallery with works they offered to the French government in lieu of inheritance tax. French law allows for, in exceptional circumstances, the payment of inheritance taxes with artworks instead of money. This exception is only made if the art is an important contribution to France's cultural heritage - which is of course true in the case of Picasso.

With a permanent collection, temporary exhibitions, and an in-depth archive, this is one of the most important collections of works by one of the 20th century's greatest artists.

A very pleasant and enriching experience that let you dive into the intimacy of Picasso’s life and legacy. Plan for at least two and half to three hours to truly and fully enjoy the experience. And do not miss to watch the 15 mins documentary about his love life and kids. It’s worth it. Have fun.
