Douce France at the National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts focuses on the personality of Rachid Taha – an artist of international renown, who turned his talent toward Arab rock – and the story of the immigrant experience from North Africa to France.

The chronological route through the exhibition focuses on the "Beur" generation, and an integration after immigration that brought about a joyful youth, but that also had its fair share of issues. Join the journey from North Africa to France and learn about interculturality as you voyage from the '60s, when songs of exiles were listened to in immigrant cafes; to the '70s when artists emerged from invisibility to the media space; and into the '80s when the Beur generation found themselves as the cultural avant-garde. The latter half of the exhibition – focusing on the '90s and 2000s – sees the emergence of the suburbs, Black-Blanc-Beur, and children of immigration becoming fully involved in the life of the nation.

Videos, photos, posters, audio recordings, and public and private archives have been used to piece together the immigrant experience in France. The route ends with “bled” karaoke, where you can sing in French, Arabic, or Kabyle.
