This exhibition brings together, for the first time in Paris, the drawn and sculpted portraits of Henri Rol-Tanguy – a hero of the French Resistance and the Liberation of Paris – by Swiss sculptor Alberto Giacometti

The Rol-Tanguy exhibition unveils around forty pieces of work created during 1946, a year and a half after the Liberation of Paris.

On show are a dozen drawings, preparatory sketches, and 17 small-format sculptures that illustrate Alberto Giacometti's aesthetic and which help elaborate on the passage of Rol-Tanguy from man to monument.

The exhibition will be presented at the museum, just above the premises which housed the FFI regional command post at the Liberation of Paris, from which the orders of Colonel Rol were sent.

The Musée de la Libération de Paris was inaugurated in 2019 to celebrate 75 years since the city was liberated from Nazi occupation. Hear the fascinating story of how proud, ordinary Parisians stood up to German rule and retook their city over six days in 1944.
