Behold the Gole Alcantara, a canyon-shaped geological phenomenon that evolved around Mount Etna, Sicily's stunning and temperamental volcano.
The Gole Alcantara, or Alcantara Gorges, is likely the result of ancient earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Learn the history of this area, just 10 km from the east coast of Sicily, on a self-guided walk.
Swim in crisp mountain water, watch a 4D movie packed with facts, and hike or take the elevator up to the top of the gorge for incredible views!
The 4D cinema screening will help you understand the evolution of the canyon. How did it form, and how long ago?
If the canyon trail seems too steep to tackle on foot, take the elevator service up and down. At the top, take one of the nature trails that wind around the botanical gardens. There are too many scenic lookout points to count – meaning tons of photo opportunities!
Back at the bottom, walk along the crystal-clear river and check out the gorgeous gorge from below before settling in to sample some local Terralcantara products such as olive oil, and citrus-based jams and liquors.
Feel free to stick around the park and take a swim in some fresh mountain river water. Ah, bliss!
