Montmajour Abbey has inspired photographers and visual artists for decades.
These photographs had not been removed from the abbey's storerooms since the 1991 festival. During the period of confinement, research was undertaken into the artist, in an attempt to contact him. With no contact details available, a bottle to the sea was launched via social networks. From the depths of Kansas, Philip Heying responded, and was able to explain the context of his work at the abbey, enabling us to present these photographs more than 30 years after they were taken.
In this exhibition, the public is invited to discover a collection of black and white photographs of Montmajour Abbey and the Glanum archaeological site in Saint-Rémy de Provence.
