The museum traces the roots of popular culture back to 1930s Memphis, from field hollers and sharecroppers to the pioneers of blues and rock who spawned decades of musical and cultural trends.

Without the blues sounds that originated in the fields around Memphis, there would be no rock or jazz music, without which, there would be no soul, funk, pop or hip hop. Memphis sent ripples around the world that became unstoppable waves of musical inspiration and evolution.
