Depart from the city and head to the western part of the Great Ocean Road to begin the journey, travelling through several country towns along the highway.
Arrive at Loch Ard Gorge surrounded by limestone cliffs early in the morning. You can take a walk and explore the local attractions, including the Island Archway, the Razorback, and the Dumpling Pots.
Learn about Australia’s most famous shipwreck. Continue to Port Campbell National Park, home to the Twelve Apostles. Enjoy the views in the soft morning light, without any crowds.
Get free time to take in the scenery, walk along the boardwalks, and capture photos.
Arrive at the Great Ocean Road Wildlife Park for an optional visit (at your own expense), for close encounters with Australia’s native wildlife. There will also be a stop here for lunch (at your own expense).
After lunch, pass through Great Otway National Park. Depending on conditions, there may be a roadside stop to walk into the eucalyptus forest and try to spot local koalas in their natural habitat (this activity is not guaranteed and may not take place).
Then, stop in the seaside town of Apollo Bay, with time to grab a bite and enjoy the coastal atmosphere. The town features wide sandy beaches, clear waters, and surrounding green hills.
Stop at the Memorial Arch at Eastern View, one of the landmarks of the Great Ocean Road, originally built to commemorate the road’s builders.
Return to Melbourne via the highway, arriving around 19:30 – 20:00.
