For the first time ever, MAXXI is dedicating its focus towards a critic's archive. As one of the most influential figures in the latter half of 20th-century Italy, Alberto Boatto was a direct witness to the radical transformations that took place in the artistic landscape during this period, and often wrote from the perspective of someone observing the art world from the outside.

This exhibition features a significant collection of items from Boatto's personal archive, including letters, manuscripts, and many of his publications. Get a full picture of who Boatto was through his exchanges with friends, his intellectual efforts, and his correspondence with artists, critics, and writers. In short, the sum total of his life's work.
