Visit the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte and explore the palace and gardens at your own pace.
Walk through the King’s Room and the Grand Salon, see the basement kitchens where banquets were prepared, and visit the Carriage Museum.
The château is also known for influencing the design of the Palace of Versailles.
In addition to the palace and gardens, the estate features several themed outdoor experiences:
The Sound Forest: Fables in the Hollow of the Tree
Listen to recordings of fables by Jean de La Fontaine as you walk through the gardens.
Sit inside hollow cedar trees placed along the path and hear selected fables performed by contemporary artists.
In the 17th century, writers and composers such as Molière and Jean-Baptiste Lully worked here under the patronage of Nicolas Fouquet.
The Materials Trail: A Sensory Walk Along the Water
Walk a short path barefoot and experience different ground textures along the way.
The trail follows an underground river and lets visitors step on materials used around the estate, including slate, copper, marble, sandstone cobbles, and water.
The Mystery of the Man in the Iron Mask: From History to Fiction
Follow a themed walking route in the gardens that explores the story of the Man in the Iron Mask.
The path passes through a 17th-century underground passage and forest areas of the estate. Along the way, displays present different theories about the identity of the prisoner, ending with a final explanation.
