Tips for visiting Westminster Abbey

You could do the walk around Westminster Abbey in under an hour without stopping if you go at an easy pace. However, many people like to spend a full day (or more), because there's so much to see inside. Bring your Westminster Abbey tickets along and be prepared to take things at your own pace.

To avoid the queues, try using your Westminster Abbey tickets early, during off-peak hours. If you're visiting in July or August, arrive at the opening time, or about 20 minutes before. During the popular summer months, you might arrive to see a long line snaking around the block, and it only gets longer as the morning goes on.

Lunchtime is usually the busiest time of the day (just after the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace). Late afternoons can be calmer, but during busy periods it's good to show up well in advance of the last admittance hour as there might be a long line, which means you won't be allowed to enter in time to explore it all.

Worship takes place every day in the Abbey. There are usually four services daily at 7.30am, 8am, 12.30pm, and 5pm. On Sundays there are six services at 8am, 10am, 11.15am, 3pm, 5.45pm, and 6.30pm.

There are several different kinds of Westminster Abbey tickets available, all of which will you give you a memorable day at this legendary landmark. You can buy regular Westminster Abbey tickets, or combine your visit with other iconic London experiences such as a guided tour of Westminster Abbey & the Changing of the Guard, a London tour featuring afternoon tea at Westminster Abbey, and a comprehensive tour of the city featuring a trip to Westminster Abbey, the Changing of the Guard, and the Tower of London.

No large luggage, rucksacks, or suitcases are allowed inside, but there are places to store your larger bags if you need to.

You can bring a camera, but remember that photography is not permitted inside Westminster Abbey. There are security staff in every room and they're very quick at spotting visitors who are taking photos.

Westminster Abbey closes later than usual on Wednesdays, at 6pm. The best part about this is that only individual visitors are allowed in. No groups or tours are permitted inside at these hours, meaning this time is generally the least crowded. Try to arrive by 4pm and you should have plenty of time to explore in peace.

Our exprerience was very good. We visited London Zoo which was excellent and Trasport Museum where we find old buses and trains. Our kid (3 years old) was excited there. Also we used Hop on Hop off it was free. You must have much patience at the havy traffic at London roads.
