Roger Fenton's Photographs of the Crimea focuses on Roger Fenton's pioneering 1855 photographs of the Crimean War. Arriving several months after the major battles were fought in 1854, Fenton focused on creating moving portraits of the troops, as well as capturing the stark, empty battlefields on which so many lives were lost. Through his often subtle and poetic interpretations, Fenton created the genre of war photography, showing his extraordinary genius in capturing the futility of war.
Russia, Royalty & the Romanovs presents a fascinating exhibition of portraits, sculpture, photographs, archival documents, and miniature masterpieces by Fabergé, that trace the historic events and family meetings between the rulers of Russia and Britain. Showcasing unique works of art that were commissioned as grand diplomatic gifts, as well as intimate personal mementos between the British royal family and the Romanovs, the exhibition offers a glimpse into the historic ties and strains between the two nations that help illuminate understandings of their current political relationship.
