Park and National Palace of Pena

This 16th-century monastery was transformed into a royal palace by King Ferdinand II. Not known for his subtlety, Ferdinand's folly is a no-holds-barred tribute to the wealth and influence of 19th-century Portugal.

A testament to the power of imagination (and money), the castle is surrounded by 500 acres of plants and maze-like pathways.

Pena Park in Sintra
Late in the day is the best time to arrive. Sintra is very busy with a one way streets. Congestion with traffic and parking could take more time than planned.

Brilliant spot to visit. You would spend a whole day there nearly. Would advise to get a tuk tuk up and down- normally cheaper than the bus. Buy tickets here and skip the ticket queue 😊

The key was to arrive early. Our driver had a lot of driving experience that really added to our trip.
