Take the train to Sintra from Oriente, Rossio or Entrecampos Station in Lisbon. When in Sintra, take the Scotturb bus #435 to Monserrate.
There was no lineup at the entrance when we visited - Monday around 5pm; still more convenient to buy the tickets in advance.
