No matter where you’re watching the sunrise from, it offers a revitalizing start to the day. But, on top of an active volcano that you’ve climbed through the night to get to the peak of, it becomes a once-in-a-lifetime memory.

Once you’ve been picked up from your hotel between 01:30 and 02:30, you’ll start a drive across the island to the base of the mountain for a safety briefing and a head lamp fitting. Then it’s time to climb.

At 5,663 feet above sea level, it’s no easy feat, but climbing past the clouds and seeing the sun crest the horizon with friends or family is worth it. A volcanic steamed egg is on the menu for breakfast, and the chance to soak in natural hot springs after breaking a sweat will give you some well-deserved relaxation.
