Highlights & Description

  • See the people, homesteads, animals and artifacts of Ireland's Celtic ancestors from over 1,000 years ago
  • Learn how Bronze Age settlers in Ireland cooked their meat, and see how they made pottery, wooden bowls, goblets, and platters
  • Explore one of Ireland’s earliest roadways or ‘togher’, dating to 148 BC, and walk around a restored medieval castle built in 1550

At Craggaunowen you'll get to experience how the Celts lived many centuries ago - this historically significant Ring Fort is full of activities simulating their lifestyle. You'll also see the 16th-century Craggaunowen Castle, the famous Brendan Boat and more. It's history that's as much fun for the little ones as it is fascinating for the grownups!

Channel the hunter-gatherer inside you at Craggaunowen, where the Bronze Age is still going strong.

See (and experience!) how ancient people caught and cooked their dinner, wove and dyed wool and held council with the chieftain.

Explore the Crannog – an artificial island-dwelling, and even engage in a little wattle-and-daub maintenance on the fence.

This family-friendly activity puts engaging lived history in a spectacular outdoor setting. Plus, there are even places to eat, so you won't have actually to chase down any deer or boar!
