It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1960 for its central role in the city's history, and as the site where Louisiana became part of The United States in 1803. In 2012 the American Planning Association designated Jackson Square as one of America’s Great Public Spaces.

Excellent
I very much enjoyed the french quarter by mule drawn carriage. Our guide was very knowledgeable of the area and infused humor to keep it from being dry/stuffy. I would recommend to others.
