Built by the late Jefferson Davis McKissack, a Houston postal worker, this monumental ode to oranges is a unique folk-art environment that's graced Houston's East End for decades.
Spread out over 3,000 square feet, The Orange Show's maze-like design includes an oasis, a wishing well, a pond, a stage, a museum, several upper decks, and – of course – an excellent gift shop.
Made of traditional materials like concrete, brick, and steel, as well as unconventional found objects like gears, wagon wheels, mannequins, and tractor seats, each piece of the Orange Show Monument was hand-painted and placed by McKissack himself.
