Admission to the Beer Can House
30-minute guided tour in English
  • Learn about this unique work of folk art, primarily created using beer cans
  • Visit a true Houston landmark, with history dating back all the way to 1968
  • Admire the end result of one beer-loving man's creativity and resourcefulness!

The Beer Can House project was started in 1968 by retired upholsterer John Milkovisch, who began inlaying thousands of marbles, rocks, and pieces of metal into concrete and wood, which he used to create unique landscaping features like patios and flower boxes.

He initially began by covering the entire front and back yard (allegedly because he was fed up with mowing the lawn), before eventually turning to the house itself and adding aluminum siding – from beer cans, obviously.

The house continued disappearing under flattened beer cans over the following 18 years, with Ripley's Believe It or Not! estimating that over 50,000 cans adorn this modern-day monument to recycling.
