Important information

Last admission is 1 hour before closing.
  • Explore the Hillsborough Castle gardens, first developed in the 1760s. The perfect morning or afternoon activity on a sunny day
  • Check out the Jubilee Garden, redesigned to celebrate Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012
  • Bring a picnic and your camera for some great photo opportunities by the lake and at the glen!

There's nothing greater than the great outdoors and you can explore 96 acres of it in the gardens of Hillsborough Castle. Stroll around the lake and through the glen, wave at the water birds on the lake and see the Quaker Burial ground, the Ice House and more. Make sure to say hi to the clucking chickens.

The glorious gardens at Hillsborough Castle were first developed in the 1760s, when Wills Hill, first Marquess of Downshire would stroll around its stunning statues, plants, and flowers saying things like "Well, isn't that jolly spiffing?" in a very posh accent. (Probably).

Follow in those upper-class footsteps with a walk around in the sunshine (fingers crossed). Look for the statue of Ossian just outside the main entrance, the Lady Alice Temple, the Ice House, and the Jubilee Garden, which was redesigned in 2012 for Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee.

If the weather's nice, take a gorgeous walk through the glen and pose by the lake with the chickens and other birds. There's so much to see in these gardens, you might want to bring a picnic and pretend you're in another century entirely.
