Sovereign Hill is a living museum presenting the story of Ballarat as a gold rush boomtown – complete with rare trades, working machinery, and costumed interpreters.

Gold was discovered here in 1851, triggering the greatest alluvial gold rush the world has ever known. The sleepy pastoral settlement of Ballarat grew rapidly into a fine provincial city built on the wealth derived from its gold.

Covering 15 hectares of a former gold mining site, Sovereign Hill's Outdoor Museum brings the gold rush to life through a living township with over 18 scheduled activities happening throughout the day, you can find yourself panning for real gold, witness musket firing, see boiled lollies, wheels, and candles being made all before your very eyes.

Took friends from Nepal. They enjoyed it immensely. I am elderly and disabled so sat having a Devonshire tea which filled in the time. Also spent time chatting with a delightful lady at Gold...

Worth visiting for sure. Paid $49 to enter and there is at least 3-4 hours walking and little activities to do in the little town. There is a 45 minutes Trapped Mine Tour, that u beter to buy...
Worth visiting for sure. Paid $49 to enter and there is at least 3-4 hours walking and little activities to do in the little town. There is a 45 minutes Trapped Mine Tour, that u beter to buy ticket for $8 on site rather than being ripped off for $20 online. To book a time to wear custom and take pictures u better first pop in to the photoshop and book as they have limited spot and we couldn’t book a time so do it first! There is only one restaurant on site And one bar with best bears and old fashion look which was great. So it’s recommended to take some food and snack but visit the bar for a cold beer.
