From October 7, 2023, to February 4, 2024, Palazzo Strozzi presents the major exhibition Anish Kapoor. Untrue Unreal, dedicated and realized in collaboration with the celebrated master who has revolutionized the concept of sculpture in contemporary art.

The exhibition offers an evocative journey through monumental installations, immersive environments, and provocative forms, creating an original and engaging connection between Anish Kapoor's art, the audience, and Renaissance architecture.

In Kapoor's works, pigments, stone, steel, wax, and silicone are manipulated, sculpted, smoothed, saturated, and treated, challenging the boundary between plasticity and materiality.

Color in Kapoor's art is not merely material and tonality; it becomes an immersive phenomenon with its own spatial and illusory volume. In the art of Anish Kapoor, the unreal merges with the untrue, transforming or denying common perceptions of reality.

He invites the viewer to explore a world where the boundaries between truth and falsehood dissolve, opening the doors to the dimension of the impossible.

Among the exhibited works, you will encounter Svayambhu (2007), a monumental block of red wax that shapes its formless matter in relation to the traversing architecture, the Non-Object Black series, featuring the famous Vantablack black pigment capable of absorbing over 99.9% of visible light, and mirror sculptures like Vertigo (2006) or Mirror (2018) that reflect and deform, reduce and multiply the surrounding space, drawing the viewer into the indefinite space they emit.

Engaging with Kapoor's art, Palazzo Strozzi becomes a place that is both concave and convex, whole and fractured simultaneously, where you'll be called upon to question your senses.
