  • See Doune Castle (Outlander's Seat of Clan MacKenzie), a 12th-century building that remains quite intact and a hunting lodge used by King James I
  • Stop at Culross, another Outlander location and a pretty village known for maintaining much of its appearance from the 17th and 18th centuries

Love Outlander? Don't miss this location tour with a local guide to famous Scottish locations from the hit TV show!

The first stop is Midhope Castle, the real-life Lallybroch home of Jamie Fraser. Next, head to Doune Castle – one of Scotland's best-preserved medieval castles and the setting for Castle Leoch in Outlander. It's also featured in some Winterfell scenes in Game of Thrones, as well as Monty Python's Holy Grail.

Continue to the Kingdom of Fife, the ancestral home of real Scottish monarchs. Spend time for lunch in Culross, the fictional village of 'Cranesmuir' where Claire is accused of witchcraft. This quaint village is the most complete example of a 17th- and 18th-century burgh in Scotland today.

After lunch, drive to the village of Falkland, used for filming 1940s Inverness. With over 28 listed buildings, the village brims with period charm. The final Outlander filming location is the impressive Blackness Castle, featured as Fort William in the series.

Please note, there are dates throughout the year when Midhope Castle is closed for estate activity and filming.
