Tips for visiting Space Center Houston

Most people spend about three to five hours in Space Center Houston, but there's enough to keep you entertained for longer. It all depends on whether you choose to watch any – or all – of the large-screen films or live shows.

Space Center Houston is usually pretty busy on weekends, during school holidays and also in the summer. If you're planning your visit to Space Center Houston during these peak times, try to arrive as early as possible and plan what you want to see in advance.

It's worth noting that many staff aren't working at NASA on weekends, which means you might miss seeing live mission control. If you can visit during the week, you'll have less crowds and more chance of seeing the fun stuff NASA are testing.

Forget dried ice cream and all the other weird things astronauts eat in space. The Food Lab – launched in late 2021 – replaced the former Zero-G diner and serves up even better Earth-based eats at Space Center Houston.

You can also get your caffeine fix at the cleverly named Grounds Control, a funky coffee bar, or get a salad, sandwich or hot entree to go at The Market.

The free Space Center Houston app features an audio tour, GPS maps, AR experiences and more! Just download it from the Apple App Store or Google Play. It's a great addition to help you get the most of your Space Center Houston tickets.

Thanks to GPS-enabled map technology, everything at Space Center Houston is easy to find, from moon rocks to spacecrafts and bathrooms. There's a daily special events calendar with built-in notifications, and fun space-themed selfie filters letting you see yourself as an astronaut and more.

What's on at Space Center Houston

The Nasa Tram Tour is Space Center Houston's most popular attraction – with good reason! The Tram Tour allows you to explore a working NASA facility and is included in your ticket.

See the Astronaut Training Facility, where space-bound men and women prepare for missions. Visit the time-capsule that is the Apollo Mission Control Center, and imagine the joy felt by staff back in 1969, as Neil Armstrong confirmed that the Eagle had landed.

At the end of the Tram Tour, you'll visit Rocket Park to see the gargantuan Saturn 5 that flew astronauts to the moon. It'll leave you starry-eyed.

Admire one of only two SpaceX Falcon 9 boosters on display around the world in this fascinating exhibit, and get up close to the future of space travel.

This marvel of reusable space technology is elevated 14 feet off the ground, letting you walk underneath and around it as you learn more about how technology like this is making space more accessible than ever before.

Wondering if it's actually been in space before? It certainly has! This piece of space-travel technology – affectionately known as B1035 – has been on two separate NASA missions, including a resupply mission to the International Space Station.

There's no need to pay extra to see it; this marvel of modern technology is included in general admission tickets to Space Center Houston.

Great history of Apollo missions and Shuttles, including immersive exhibits and rocket displays. Nostalgic for this Boomer, and also learned things I hadn't known.

The Natural Bridge Caverns of San Antonio are the largest-known caverns you can explore in Texas. The caves were discovered in the 1960s, but there's plenty of archeological evidence which suggests that humans were using the caves as far back as 5,000 BC! The caves are explorable thanks to state-of-the-art lighting and handy paths that visitors can follow on self-guided underground tours. Outside, there are also courses for rope climbing and ziplining, suspended high above the ground.
