Fernsehturm Stuttgart
When the SWR Television Tower opened in Stuttgart in 1956, it stood out in more ways than one: it was the first television tower in the world to be built of reinforced concrete, it represented a new type of structure as the first broadcasting tower to have an observation platform and a restaurant, and it was one of the highest buildings worldwide, with a height of 217 metres. It is state capital's most prominent landmark, firmly anchored not only in the cityscape but also in the hearts of Stuttgart's inhabitants. The observation decks at a height of 150 m and 153 m offer a unique, 360° panoramic view over Stuttgart and the vineyards of the Neckar Valley as far as the Swabian Alb and the Black Forest. The view from Stuttgart's highest lookout point is an unforgettable experience at any time of year. Catering is provided at the Panorama Café in the tower pod and the restaurant at the foot of the tower whose terrace is an inviting place to linger in the summer months.
