Wicklow’s Historic Gaol
Wicklow’s Historic Gaol is a late 18th-century prison that was a working lock-up until 1924. Now a museum, it's a fascinating interactive (and rather spooky) attraction.
Wicklow’s Historic Gaol is located in County Wicklow and can be reached from Dublin, Dun Laoghaire, Greystones, or Bray by bus or train.

The schoolroom in the lower floor is gone (as a teacher I always enjoyed this room), and the spooky cells off it are gone also. This room looks like it's now used for 'events'.
Even though the present set up is still well-worth the visit, I think that the absence of actors/characters which brought the history alive, particularly for kids, is missed. As I said we brought our kids here many years ago, when there were actors present, and they loved it!
In our present society where face to face contact is becoming less and less frequent, I think that history comes alive with people/characters there to tell you face to face their story.
