In 2011, the San Francesco Woodland (Bosco di San Francesco) was opened to the public. This area of about 12 acres boasts tranquil walking paths that allow visitors to experience Assisi's forest and all its natural beauty. It's an intact piece of the Umbrian countryside, promising silence at the foot of the great Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi. Through a door in the wall of the square in front of the Upper Basilica of Assisi, you'll enter a narrow path that leads to a wide valley floor, at the foot of the city center. Some see the walk as a new form of pilgrimage into history, so come and explore the sacred area with its 64 hectares of nature, between woodland and cultivated fields, pink stone walls, clearings and olive groves.

St. Patrick's Well was built for the water supply of the city of Orvieto in 1527. Its architect, Antonio da Sangallo, took up the challenge at the behest of Pope Clement VII. The 53-metre deep well has a double spiral staircase (248 steps each), and 72 large windows that take light from a skylight placed at the top of the monument. The famous staircase allowed pack animals to go down and up again to get water without ever meeting. While its practical purpose is no longer necessary, its beauty and intrigue has stood the test of time.

Montepulciano Cathedral, or, Cathedral Saint Mary Of The Assumption, to give its full name, is the principal place of worship in Montepulciano, in the province of Siena, in the Tuscany region of Italy. While its exterior is not much to write home about due to being unfinished, its interior tells a different story, and stepping inside you'll be swept into its centuries of history with beautiful Florentine art and architecture everywhere you set you eyes. Among the ornate artworks in the cathedral is an Assumption of the Virgin triptych on the high altar painted by Taddeo di Bartolo all the way back in 1401.
