It consists of double defensive walls punctuated by 52 watchtowers, a castle with a museum, a Gothic cathedral, and impressive historic buildings within the enclosure. It's also the inspiration for the beloved table game Carcassonne. It's been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.
