Along with Roland Barthes, Michel Foucault, Jacques Derrida and Gilles Deleuze, Jacques Lacan's thought is essential to understanding our contemporary world. While most of these intellectual figures have already been the subject of tributes and exhibitions, Lacan's thought remains unexplored in museums, even though he had a strong relationship with works of art. Lacan was closely involved with twentieth-century art and artists (Salvador Dalí, André Masson, Georges Bataille, Pablo Picasso and Dora Maar), and never ceased to draw on art of all periods in his teaching. More than 40 years after the psychoanalyst's death, the exhibition will explore Lacan's privileged relationship with art, bringing together the works he himself indexed, the artists who paid tribute to him, and the modern and contemporary works that echo the major conceptual articulations of his thought.
