  • Relax and unwind on a bilingual guided tour to spot wild birds and mangroves
  • Enjoy the nutrient-rich clay at the Mayan Bath, great for reducing stress and removing toxins
  • Tuck into a seafood lunch, enjoy 5 drinks on the boat, and snap some photos in your free time at Playa Virben

Forget your fishing lines and leave it to the pros. Rio Lagartos is a small fishing village in a Nature Reserve; one of the natural treasures of the Yucatan Peninsula.

On a relaxing boat, tour through its water channels, see the amazing mangroves blooming, spot a variety of bird species such as pink flamingos, herons, eagles, seagulls, pelicans and cormorants, and let nature wow you.

Pass under the Las Coloradas bridge to reach the salt deposits, where you'll see different bodies of water involved in this process, some of which are a striking pink colour! Next, cover yourself in cool, nutrient-rich clay at the Mayan Bath. It's dirty but it's worth it.

Then, head to a virgin beach to remove the clay with the crystalline water. You can also enjoy your three-course lunch - there's nothing better than the tasty fish and seafood cooked up here.

Before boarding the bus, stop by a water spring surrounded by mangroves of up to 25 meters. You might even see a crocodile!

As soon as I heard about Río Lagartos, I knew I had to visit this small fishing village on the Yucatan Peninsula. I was thrilled to learn that it was located within a nature reserve, making it one of the natural treasures of the region.
On the day of the tour, I woke up early to get ready for the boat ride through the mangroves. As we set off, I was amazed by the peaceful surroundings and the diverse range of bird species that were flying around us. The pink flamingos, eagles, seagulls, pelicans, and cormorants were simply breathtaking, and I couldn't believe how close we were able to get to them.
As we continued along the river, we passed under the Las Coloradas Bridge to reach the salt deposits. The pools of vibrant pink water surrounding the deposits were a sight to behold. It was fascinating to learn about the unique natural processes that cause the water to turn such a beautiful shade of pink.
Afterward, we were taken to a Mayan bath where our bodies were covered in nutrient-rich clay. It was such a relaxing experience, and I could feel the clay working wonders on my skin. After the bath, we were treated to a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear waters of a pristine beach. It was the perfect way to cool off after the warm and humid day.
Finally, we indulged in a delicious local meal consisting of fresh fish and shellfish. The flavors were simply amazing, and I couldn't get enough of the local cuisine. As I sat there, enjoying my meal and reflecting on the day, I realized how lucky I was to have experienced the wonders of Río Lagartos. It was truly a trip of a lifetime.
