Where you'll go

Venues you'll visit

  • Use this smartphone ticket and get right into one of the world's largest sculpture collections
  • Travel time and space through art, from Ancient Greece to the Byzantine Empire, right up until the 19th century
  • See the famous Flora bust - possibly created by Leonardo da Vinci (though more likely made by 19th-century sculptor Richard Cockle Lucas)

Bode Museum combines Byzantine Art with one of the largest collections of sculptures in the world. And, as a bonus, it's one of the most stunning buildings in Berlin! Situated on the north side of Museum Island, visitors can admire the stunning handiwork of some of the finest craftsmen and artists of the age.

A visit to the Bode will expose you to waves of art from around the world. The museum's collections draw from several historical eras - from the end of the Roman Empire right up until the 19th century.

Art movements covered include the Christian Orient, Byzantium, Ravenna, Italian Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque eras, among others. Soak up masterpieces from a broad range of times and locations.

And if that wasn’t enough, the Bode Museum also houses the Münzkabinett (Coin Cabinet) with an incredible 500,000 items - including pieces from Ancient Greece, Rome, the Middle East, and the Orient.

TRENDSETTING MUSEUM

The Bode Museum was built at the turn of the 20th century for Crown Princess Victoria of Prussia. She wanted to display paintings and sculptures side-by-side. Art historian and curator Wilhelm von Bode fulfilled Her Highness's wishes, and changed the way art is displayed ever after. And Von Bode got this fantastic museum named in his honor.

Beyond Compare

The Bode Museum's newest exhibition is all about contrasts, pairing up different-yet-similar sculptures from Africa and Europe and asking the visitor to consider the universal human themes which unite them. It's an exhibition that explores the thin line between ethnography and art history – and the social prejudices contained within.

Please show your smartphone ticket at the entrance.
