The ancient synagogue has always been closed for the past three days that I visited despite the website saying that it is open. According to the museum beside it, the synagogue does not have employees to keep it open. I paid an entrance fee for 2 but was not able to get in.

It’s a sad statement that this ancient synagogue was lost to the history until someone recently took the effort to search for it archaeologically. It’s as though they tried to erase generations of Jewish Contributions to Spanish culture and history. Also, if not for the individual benefactors and philanthropists, who contributed the Judaica and furnishings. this “museum” space would have remained an empty shell. Sad, every way you look at it.
