Discover Sagrada Familia
Stepping into La Sagrada Familia’s interior is like stepping directly into the imaginative mind of Gaudí himself.
-
Stained-glass windows: As the sun traverses the sky over the course of a singular day, the floor-to-ceiling windows transform from blue and green to red, orange and yellow – a kaleidoscopic transition from life to death.
-
Tree canopy ceiling: Overhead, the columns bearing the weight of the basilica’s ceiling branch out like trees in a giant canopy, reminding visitors of the unfathomable scale of this holy structure.
Ticket options: Access to the main basilica interior is included with all ticket types, from the basic Sagrada Familia entry ticket to a guided tour.
Ascending the towers of Sagrada Familia is an otherworldly experience. From one of the tallest vantage points in the city center, you can survey all of Barcelona, the sea, and the surrounding mountains from above. See the decorative details from the Nativity or Passion Tower from one of the basilica’s tallest pinnacles.
To access the towers, visitors must climb a steep narrow staircase to access the towers, which is not wheelchair accessible and no lift is available.
-
Nativity Tower: Completed in 1933, it's one of the earliest finished parts of the basilica. The tower features biblical symbolism, with sculptures depicting the celebration of the birth of Jesus.
-
Passion Tower: The Passion Tower at Sagrada Familia represents the suffering and death of Jesus. It features stark, angular sculptures by Josep Subirachs, depicting the Stations of the Cross.
Ticket options: Exclusive access to the towers is not included in standard Sagrada Familia entry tickets, but can be purchased separately. Tower tickets are limited and sell out quickly, so booking in advance is crucial.
Each of the basilica’s three facades tells the story of Christianity, with distinct design elements that set it apart from the rest. Visitors must circle the entire structure to be able to see glimpses of architectural details full of symbolism and religious meaning.
-
Nativity Façade: This is only one completed in Gaudí's lifetime, representing the birth of Jesus with joyful, ornate, and nature-inspired sculptures.
-
Passion Façade: A stark, skeletal, and angular contrast, depicting the suffering and crucifixion of Christ.
-
Glory Façade: The final and main façade, still under construction, which will represent the road to God.
Ticket options: While the exterior façades can be viewed from the outside, their intricate details and symbolism are best appreciated with a guided tour or an audio guide, included in your Sagrada Familia entry ticket.
Explore Gaudí's original models, sketches, and photographs inside the museum, located underneath Sagrada Familia.
Dozens of artifacts show how each structure’s design and the complex architectural techniques used. Seeing the plaster models helps visitors understand the incredible complexity of Gaudí's vision.
Ticket options: Access to the museum is included in all ticket types and is located on the lower level of the basilica.
