What's not included

Guided tour
  • Visit Belgium's first museum dedicated entirely to graphic art in the vibrant city of Antwerp
  • See the works of three art masters: Edvard Munch, Francisco Goya, and Félicien Rops displayed in the context of contemporary cultural events
  • Admire the work of 40 or so other graphic artists from around the world

Plumb the depths of some artistic geniuses at Antwerp's Museum De Reede, including both permanent and temporary exhibitions. Focusing on the works of three artworld heavyweights: Francisco Goya, Félicien Rops, and Edvard Munch, this hidden gem is Belgium's first museum dedicated to graphic art. Only opened in 2017, it rates highly among art lovers.

See 35 dark and ominous works by Edvard Munch. Unsurprisingly, the artist who created The Scream works with intensely evocative psychological themes.

Nearby, Francisco Goya's Los caprichos etchings are a caustic critique of the folly of mankind, religious fanaticism, and the decline of rationality in late 18th century Spain.

There are also some 30 graphic works by influential Belgian printmaker Félicien Rops. Sex and death are prominent themes in his work, which ran counter to the moralistic mood of the times.

Well-curated, with a representative sampling of three artistic greats, this museum shines new relevance on three master artists.

I enjoyed the museum especially due to provided flyer with the artists' key milestones of their lives. It extended my experience of the visit as it gave deeper insight and understanding why individual art pieces were drawn in given period of their lives. Museum is very clean, quiet, the staff is very friendly and it all supports a strong personal experience beyond my expectations. Thank you very much for that.
