Het Scheepvaartmuseum (National Maritime Museum)
Het Scheepvaartmuseum houses in a former maritime storehouse, and has a wide collection of the maritime history of the Netherlands.
The building was founded in 1656 and was built as a storehouse for the Admiralty in Amsterdam. Cannons, sheets, flags and sail-equipment were stored in this building. In 1791 the building burned down to the ground. Napoleon restored the building to its old glory and since then it was again used as a storehouse until the 1970's, until Het Scheepvaartmuseum came to house in it.
