From 1 December until 21 January, experience Amsterdam in a different light. Literally. This year, The Amsterdam Light Festival's theme is 'Existential', inspiring artists to look at what connects people, and how light can bring us together. Now you can take in the stunning displays from the cozy luxury of a canal boat
The Amsterdam Light Festival consists of over 35 sculptures crafted from twinkling lights, and dotted throughout the city. They'll be illuminating the waterfront from 1 December to 21 January, turning the city into a glittering wonderland. This is one of the best times to take a canal boat tour of Amsterdam.
As you float around the storybook canals, the reflections of these custom artworks - all created by select international artists, including Ai Weiwei - turn the canals of Amsterdam into shimmering nighttime rainbows.

Waiting to get into the boat (30+ minutes) was less than wonderful despite a DJ who did what he could to make the time go by more quickly. Towards the end of the trip we also noticed that there was a 'traffic jam of boats' so that the final part of the journey went slowly. Many of the children on board found this 'difficult'. Having said that, I enjoyed the trip enormously and loved seeing the lights. I would have given this trip a five star if I hadn't had to wait in line so long. I guess no one much likes that and I am no exception. I have recommended the trip to others and included the info about waiting. That way, it is not an unpleasant surprise...
