  • Get up close to a collection of stunning imperial jewels and fashion acquired over the course of two centuries
  • Learn about the Russian empresses and their obsession for shiny things through ball gowns, jewelry, antiques and more
  • Gain insight into key figures from Russian high society and their extravagant lifestyles through over 400 unique pieces

Hermitage Amsterdam presents 200 years of Russian high society, through the jewels, fashion and artwork which made it sparkle.

Until May 2020, the Dutch branch of St. Petersburg's renowned museum is exhibiting gleaming collections from some of the country's most extravagant historical figures. From antique pieces decorated with multi-colored stones, to glittering gowns and priceless jewelry, explore the opulence of Imperial Russia in the heart of Amsterdam.

Jewels! The Glitter of the Russian Court at the Hermitage includes 300 jewels and over 100 antiques, portraits, dresses and costumes. As you admire stunning pieces, you can imagine yourself wearing them at one of the Russian court's many glamorous balls and parties (imagine is the key word here, unless you want to get arrested).

Learn about fascinating royal personalities – tsars, tsarinas, empresses and dukes – through some of the most luxurious items to survive the Russian Revolution.

Highlights include a gem-laden jewelry box belonging to Catherine the Great, and a jewel bouquet containing over 800 cut diamonds, sapphires, rubies and emeralds from Empress Elizabeth's extensive collection of precious items.
