Thoroughly enjoyed the trip, with the added benefit of having clear guidance from the tourist information office. The basilica and the black Madonna is must see. If one is looking to hike, might be best to reach there early and keep 2 hours for hiking. Overall, t’was good.

About: Abadia de Montserrat

This magnificent 4,000-foot wonder is easily recognizable from afar by its “serrated” top from which it gets its name. And 2,380 feet above sea level, the Benedictine monastery of Santa Maria de Montserrat enjoys a stunning location, surrounded by an unforgettable natural landscape.

The monastery has served as a center for spiritual retreat for almost one thousand years. We will first visit the basilica, where the Virgin Santa Maria of Montserrat, Patron Saint of Catalonia, is located.

Poble Espanyol is a museum that feels like an actual village. Built in 1929 for a world exhibition, it’s a lifesize replica of a Spanish town that features building styles from all regions of Spain. There are 117 buildings in total, and today these make up a beautiful cluster of restaurants and workshops that reflect the many diverse lifestyles, cuisines, and cultures of traditional Spain. Take a nice stroll through, have some tapas and peruse the Spanish arts and crafts shops.
