The Van Gogh Museum<\/a> is filled with famous works by its native son, Vincent Van Gogh.\u00a0When it came to creativity, this guy was literally a master.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unsurprisingly the Van Gogh Museum<\/a> houses the largest collection of the Dutch painter\u2019s works, including his earliest forays into art, notably The Potato Eaters<\/em> and Skull of a Skeleton with Burning Cigarette<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Incredibly, most of Van Gogh\u2019s works were created in the final decade of his life, with his final two years in the south of France producing perhaps his most famous pieces \u2013 including Sunflowers<\/em>, Bedroom in Arles<\/em>, and Almond Blossoms<\/em>. You\u2019ll see them all during your visit, as well as fascinating personal letters, famous self-portraits, and more. Luckily, getting to the Van Gogh Museum is easy thanks to its location in the centre of Amsterdam.<\/p>\n\n\n

Getting to the Van Gogh Museum from Amsterdam<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There are plenty of ways to get to the Van Gogh Museum from Amsterdam. You\u2019ll find it in Amsterdam\u2019s Museumplein, close to Moco Museum<\/a> and the Rijksmuseum<\/a>. If you fancy a tipple after, the House of Bols<\/a> is also close by.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By bike<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If you have your own bike, then there are plenty of places to park it near the Van Gogh Museum. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Museumplein literally translates to \u201cmuseum square\u201d, and there\u2019s bike parking on all sides of that square. But, the best place to leave your bike would be <\/strong>on the Johannes Vermeerstraat (purple), Paulus Potterstraat (red), or the Van Baerlestraat (yellow).<\/p>\n\n\n

By tram<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A number of trams will bring you to the Van Gogh Museum, it just depends on your starting point. The Amsterdam GVB Pass <\/a>is handy in a pinch if you don\u2019t have an OV chip card, which is Amsterdam\u2019s answer to tapping on and off public transport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

– If you\u2019re travelling from Amsterdam\u2019s Central Station, then you\u2019ll want to catch Tram 2<\/strong> or Tram 12<\/strong>. 
– If you\u2019re travelling from Amsterdam Zuid station, catch Tram 5.<\/strong>
– If you\u2019re travelling from Amsterdam Amstel, catch Tram 12.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When in doubt, your best bet is to pull out your smartphone and consult Google Maps. If you\u2019re feeling truly Dutch, you can also check 9292<\/a> to help plan your journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It could also be the case that the fastest way to get there is by Metro. The Vijzelgracht metro station on the North-South line is the closest to the Van Gogh Museum and it should only take you 10 minutes to walk from there. You\u2019ll also get an impressive view of the Rijksmuseum and Museumplein if you decide to go that way.<\/p>\n\n\n

Travelling to the Van Gogh Museum by canal boat<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re feeling really Dutch, then there\u2019s no better way to arrive at the Van Gogh Museum than via Amsterdam\u2019s quaint canals. The Van Gogh Museum is just a five-minute walk from the canal stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Canal tours<\/a> stop right in front of the Rijksmuseum, and from there you\u2019ll be able to enjoy a quaint walk that actually takes you right beneath the Netherlands\u2019 most prestigious museum. That\u2019s right, beneath<\/em>. There\u2019s a major cycle path running through the Rijksmuseum, so make sure to stay on the footpath \u2013 it doesn\u2019t get more Dutch.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
