24 Hours in Barcelona

Peter by Peter
in Barcelona, City Guides

Home City Guides Barcelona

24 hours is not a lot of time – especially in a city as overflowing with culture as Barcelona. Still, the Tiqets team likes a challenge. That’s why we compiled our jam-packed guide for getting the most out of the Catalonian capital. So whether you’re making the most of an extended stopover or simply planning a last-minute getaway, Tiqets has you covered!

First things first: transport. Barcelona has one of the most extensive and reliable public transport networks in the world, and an all-access pass cost only €14.50. You’ll be zipping all over this town, so a travel pass is a no-brainer… and with 48-hour validity you may be tempted to ‘miss’ your return flight altogether.

Park Güell

Park Guell Barcelona

Blurring the lines between city garden, theme park and art installation, Park Güell is a sprawling, technicolor delight. And with its unbeatable views of the city below, it’s the perfect vantage point to get the lay of the land and scope out the attractions to come!Travel pass in hand, soak up the morning sun in this stunning park, designed by Antoni Gaudí himself in 1926. If you’re a fan of ‘God’s Architect’, you’ll already know what to expect, but the park is the perfect introduction to this maverick Modernista’s inimitable style.

Sagrada Familia

Sagrada Familia Barcelona

Now you have a taste for Gaudí, hop on a bus and enjoy the short ride over to his magnum opus – the monolithic Sagrada Familia. As Spain’s most visited monument, this jaw-dropping church needs no introduction, mixing Gothic and Modernist designs with alien-like organic motifs. The Familia is so spectacular that it’s actually still not incomplete, with construction continuing long after Gaudí took an unfortunate stroll in front of a tram.

Needless to say, this attraction is as popular as it is unmissable – queues can snake around the building and as far as the eye can see. Don’t worry though, with Tiqets you can skip the line and save yourself up to two hours – vital when you’re pressed for time!

Montjuïc Cable Car

Montjuic Cable Car Barcelona

Feeling a little Gaudíed-out? This serene cable car is the perfect palate-cleanser and gives a literal ‘overview’ of the city in a few minutes – efficient and enjoyable.

The recently-refurbished cars (always reassuring when you’re dangling hundreds of feet above the ground) will glide you to the top of Montjuïc hill, where the breathtaking views continue. It’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy a serene lunch, before making an equally-graceful return to Earth and continuing with your day!

MACBA – Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art

MACBA Barcelona

After a very historic morning, it’s time to get back to the future (well, the present) and open your mind to over 5000 works of stunningly modern art. With works from the 1940s right up to the present day, there’s something to delight even the most jaded of art critics

There’s so much here that you’ll struggle to see it all, but even a brief visit will satiate your cultural hunger. Designed by Richard Meier, the glassy building itself is achingly cool (figuratively and literally – the air conditioning is a welcome respite from the afternoon sun!), and a must-see for all visitors to Barcelona.

Gaudí Experience

Gaudi Experience, Barcelona

By now, you’ve immersed yourself in both the old and new, the ancient and cutting edge. Well now it’s time to combine the two, and settle into this ‘4D’ sensory spectacle. Mixing stereoscopic visuals, 7.1 surround sound and moving seats with special effects, you’ll get inside the inner workings of Gaudí’s head (yes, Gaudí again… he was kind of a big deal).

In just 30 minutes, you’ll see the world as Antonio himself saw it. And thanks to the latest in cinema technology, you’ll feel it too. As hair-raising as it is inspiring, maybe it’s all you’ll need to unlock your inner visionary architect. Just watch out for trams on the way out.

Tarantos Flamenco Show

Flamenco Barcelona

By now, the sun will be setting and your head will be spinning… but there’s still a few precious hours to make the most of. Take a load off and settle down for a thrillingly authentic performance in Barcelona’s oldest Flamenco club.

It’s impossible not to get swept up in this explosion of music, movement, and colour, and you’ll be awestruck by the impossibly-talented performers as they fly across the stage. It’s the perfect early-evening pick-me-up, and you’ll bounce out the door – ready for the night ahead.

Night Card

BCN Nightcard

We could tell you exactly how to spend an evening on the town in Barcelona… but that’s missing the point entirely. Besides, any plans will probably fall to pieces after you’ve sculled a few sangrias (Tiqets Top Tip – the local punch as is strong as it is deliciously refreshing, so try not to drink a whole jug by yourself).

This bargainous pass lets you go wherever the night takes you, with free entry and skip-the-line credentials for over 20 clubs across the city. Do you choose a favorite to hone your (newly bolstered) flamenco skills in, or hop between as many as possible? The choice is yours! Only one thing’s for certain – you’ll (finally) go to bed knowing you got the full Barcelona experience, all in under 24 hours!

Make the most of a short stay – save time and money with Tiqets!

Start planning your next getaway with Tiqets.com or test your new knowledge of Gaudi trivia, with our 8 Things You Didn’t Know guide.
